UPS

APCUPSD

If you have an APC with a USB cable, the quickest way to get this working is to use apcupsd.

sudo apt-get install apcupsd
sudo vim /etc/apcupsd/apcupsd.conf

...
...
...
UPSCABLE usb
...
...
UPSTYPE usb
DEVICE

sudo vim /etc/default/apcupsd

ISCONFIGURED=yes

If your APC has a serial connection, and you still have the original serial cable (the pin-outs are nonstandard) you can connect it to your system with a cheap serial to usb adapter.  Your setup for that would be:

UPSCABLE smart
...
...
UPSTYPE apcsmart
DEVICE /dev/usb-tty/ttyUSB0

If you have a more complicated set up look into nut below (that is circa 2009 though, so take it with a grain of salt)
