filezilla proxy

The easiest way to get files on and off a server that's behind a ssh gateway it to make use of a SSH's SOCKS proxy feature and configure filezilla to use it. This will allow you to directly connect to the back-end server, eliminating the need to two-step everything.

First, create a ssh connection:

ssh -D 1080 gattis@some.ssh.server

Next, configure filezilla to use a proxy

Filezilla -> preferences -> Generic proxy
  • Type of generic proxy: SOCKS 5
  • Proxy host: localhost
  • Proxy port: 1080

Now, in site manager you can enter the direct address of the back-end server and connect normally

This is a program wide change, so don't forget to disable the proxy for other servers in their advanced tab in connection manager if needed
