How to bypass IIS and install a cert manually

Basically, you want to start up MMC certificate snap-in and importantly, choose the __Computer account__ option and then select __Local Computer__ on the next screen.

Once you've got it loaded, expand the Certificates (Local Computer) snap-in tree and navigate to Personal (and then Certificates, if you've got one. If it is not, that is because there are no certificates installed.) Then right-click on Personal (or Certificates if you can) Choose All Tasks, and then click Import.

Note - this only works for certificates that are actually exported, such as in a *.p12 file. Trying to move just the .cet wont do it becase that's only the public part. You need the public AND private key as contatined in a p12 or other ~~exported~~ certificate.
